摘要

一株植物怎样把光、水与生长放在同一本账里?这篇综述按速率、预算与整合三层来读,并用占位数据说明生长曲线该怎样报告。

Plant physiology is often taught as a list of processes. A reviewer's job is to show that the list has an order: light sets a rate, water sets a budget, and growth is what happens when both are integrated over a season.

The three levels are kept separate in this review because they fail separately. A plant can be light-limited and water-rich, or the reverse, and a text that merges the two cannot say which experiment would distinguish them.

Every number below is a placeholder. No species, site or season is claimed; the tables show where a completed review would place its own data.

Photosynthesis is a rate before it is a process. Written as a rate, it can be compared across leaves, species and days without changing units, which is the reason the review opens here rather than with the biochemistry.

The third column is the practical content of the section: each way of reporting has a blind spot, and a review that says so is more useful than one that recommends a single number.

Water relations are easier to reason about as a budget than as a state. Inputs, storage and losses can be listed, and a claim about drought becomes a claim about one term of the list rather than about the plant as a whole.

  • Input: rainfall, irrigation and the water already in the soil.
  • Storage: the soil column and the plant itself.
  • Loss: transpiration and drainage, which respond on different timescales.

The timescale sentence is the one that carries the argument. A budget that balances over a season can be badly out of balance over an afternoon.

Growth integrates the previous two sections. Figure 1 shows the shape a growth report takes: a measured series, not a final height, with the early and late phases visibly different.

Two series are used on purpose: the crossover is the finding, and a report that published only the final height would have lost it. That is the sentence the review wants the reader to carry away.

A completed review would add the meta-analysis tables, the species where the pattern fails, and a section on measurement error, since most disagreements in this literature are disagreements about how a quantity was measured.
